B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend Reels in Big Fun
This Father’s Day weekend, British Columbia’s lakes and streams will play host to free events aimed at getting families hooked on fishing.

NOVEMBER
The 2008 Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival
Please join us the weekend of November 15th and 16th, at one of our 14 venues between Mission and Chilliwack
to explore the variety of sites that have exhibits, food, live eagles
and entertainment. There is something for everyone; many sites are free
of charge and designed with families in mind.
OCTOBER
Salmon Come Home a free family event
Join Coquitlam Leisure and Parks and the Hoy/Scott Creek Watershed Society to welcome the salmon home on Sunday, October 26, 2008. This free family event will be held at the Hoy Creek Fish Hatchery from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Flying Fish in the B.C. Interior
Thousands of rainbow trout are taking to the air this fall as part of
the Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C. efforts to improve
recreational fishing opportunities at numerous Interior lakes.
World Rivers Day
On Sunday, September 28th the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup
Coalition (CVRCC) is hosting a river cleanup and celebration as part of World

This month B.C.’s sport fishing industry celebrates the 100th birthday
of Delta-based Gibbs/Nortac Fishing Industries Limited, the largest
manufacturer of fishing tackle in Canada with over 14,000 lures,
sinkers, landing nets and accessories for fishing enthusiasts.
Lafarge Lake stocked Thursday, June 26
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, in partnership with the
Ministry of Environment, stocked catchable rainbow trout into Lafarge
Lake in Coquitlam for the 8th time this year.
Ferguson Lake dock opening a success!
On Saturday, June 14 the Spruce City Wildlife Association hosted an
event at Ferguson Lake (Prince George) to celebrate BC’s Free Family
Fishing Weekend and to officially open the new 50 foot fishing dock
that was recently finished.
"Fishing in the City" Tackle Packages Now Available
Friday, June 6
Highwater Tackle in North Vancouver, Sea Run Fly & Tackle in Coquitlam and Riverside
Fly & Tackle in Port Coquitlam have begun selling special “Fishing in the
City” rod and reel combinations that will provide novice anglers will all the
equipment and tackle they’ll need to get fishing this summer.
Stocking Tyhee Lake near Smithers
Tuesday, June 10
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, in partnership with the
Ministry of Environment, will be stocking Tyhee Lake. Other
participating partners will be BC Parks, Department of Fisheries and
Oceans and a local school group. Come out and see how a lake is
stocked, and don't forget to bring your rod and reel!

Stocking Ten Mile Lake near Quesnel
Saturday, May 24
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, in partnership with the
Ministry of Environment, will be stocking Ten Mile Lake with kokanee.
The stocking of kokanee provides wonderful summer and ice fisheries,
which are great opportunities for families. Other partners will be at
the lake to give fishing instruction on catching kokanee.
Learn to Fish at Green Timbers Lake in Surrey
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is offering 5 FREE Learn
to Fish programs at Green Timbers in May as part of Surrey’s
Environmental Extravaganza celebration. The program is for youth under
16 years of age, but parent participation is encouraged.
