Lafarge and Rice Lakes stocked this week
On Thursday, June 26, 2008 the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, stocked catchable rainbow trout into Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam for the 8th time this year. Just over 1200 fish averaging over 350 grams each (over half a pound) were released. This is the final planned stocking for the summer as lake water temperatures will be too warm for fish stocking during July and August.
On Wednesday July 2nd, 2008 the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, stocked catchable rainbow trout into Rice Lake in North Vancouver for the 9th time this year. Just over 1200 fish averaging over 350 grams each (over half a pound) were put into the lake. This is the final planned stocking for Rice Lake this summer. It is possible, if water temperature remains suitable, that Rice Lake could receive one more infusion of fish in mid-July.
During the spring/summer season over 817,000 catchable rainbow averaging over 300 grams each have been stocked into Lafarge and Rice Lakes. These two lakes are part of a new Fishing in the City initiative that the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC has embarked on to try and provide improved angling opportunities for residents within the urban core of the Lower Mainland. This program has proved to be very popular as evidenced by increased angler activity and angler catch success.
Stocking will resume in the fall beginning in September and continuing into October.
