Freshwater Fishing Regions

Family Fishing Waters
"Catch up with your kids!"
Family fishing waters are great places to take kids fishing. All of the lakes here have simple fishing regulations and are relatively easy to access. Many of them can be fished from shore or from a pier. For more information, additional fishing lakes, and tips on fishing with kids, visit www.gofishbc.com

Occasional angler spots
These lakes have easy vehicle access with opportunities for shore or pier fishing and/or the basic facilities so the angler can launch a cartop boat or canoe. These lakes are often stocked with fish a few times a year that are catchable sized. Also, they are often located in or near a provincial park, regional park or forest recreation site that provides more recreation activities and facilities.

Fishing in the City
Experience your own urban fishing adventure this year! City fisheries are located in ponds and lakes in municipal and regional district parks, managed by the Ministry of Environment, and stocked by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. Most city fisheries have great shore or pier fishing. Fishing opportunities are at their best during the spring and fall when the lakes are frequently stocked with catchable-sized rainbow trout. The lakes are not stocked during July and August when high surface water temperatures significantly reduce fish survival.

saltwater fishing regions in bc

freshwater angling
The Coastal regions of British Columbia offer almost limitless angling potential for both shore-bound and boat-based anglers. Whether your prefer casting spoons and spinners to hard-fighting Coho, fly casting to Coastal Cutthroat trout off a gentle, cobbled beach, hauling in crab pots from your favourite local fishing pier, or hand lining shiners and perch, as long as you are near the ocean in B.C., you aren't far from world-class, saltwater fishing opportunities!

This section will focus on easily accessible, calm water and shore-based fishing opportunities for beginning and occasional anglers. As the list is long, we've highlighted some of the more well-known and popular destinations, species and techniques. Remember though, once you master the basics, the opportunities for saltwater angling in B.C. are limited only by your willingness to try new spots and your sense of adventure.
