Fishing and Camping are a Great Pairing

BC’s lakes are in the midst of undergoing fish stocking, which means more freshwater fish than you can shake a stick (or rod) at this summer. As you dust off musty camping gear and prepare to hit the road, make sure your rods and reels are along for the trip.

Region 2: Lower Mainland

This varied region stretches from E.C. Manning Provincial Park in the southeast to the Sunshine Coast in the west and the great coastal fjords of Toba and Bute Inlets in the north. Amid a spectacular Coast Mountains setting, you will find lakes with easy-to-catch fish for the novice angler. Fast-flowing coastal streams hold trophy salmon and steelhead to challenge the veteran fly-fisher.

Within reach of the exciting hustle and bustle of Vancouver - British Columbia's biggest municipality and site of the 2010 Winter Olympics - you can find top-notch, year-round freshwater angling opportunities in the lakes, rivers, and streams that dot the southwest corner of our province.

In addition to fishing, you can enjoy all the amenities of a major urban area. Theatres, clubs, fine dining, shopping, museums and art galleries are just a few of the many attractions. You will also find farms, wineries, and flower gardens to tour. And don't forget, activities don't stop in wintertime - there is world-class skiing at several of the region's mountains, including the main winter Olympic site of Whistler.
