B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend Reels in Big Fun

This Father’s Day weekend, British Columbia’s lakes and streams will play host to free events aimed at getting families hooked on fishing.

Como Lake

Nearest town/city: in Coquitlam
Driving directions:
South of Como Lake Avenue, off of Gatensbury Street.
Facilities:
2 floating piers, washrooms, walking trail, playground.

stocked catchable-sized rainbow trout
Tips/Techniques:
Best fishing is from the two floating piers in the spring and fall.


Lafarge Lake



Nearest town/city:
in Coquitlam
Driving directions:
At the corner of Pinetree Way and Guilford Way; adjacent to City Hall, Douglas College, and the Recreation Centre.
Facilities:
A fishing pier (new for spring 2008), washrooms, walking trail, playground.

stocked catchable-sized rainbow trout
Tips/Techniques:
Best fishing is from shore in the spring and fall. Fish from the new pier scheduled to be complete for spring 2008.


Green Timbers Lake

Nearest town/city:
in Surrey
Driving directions:
In the Green Timbers Urban Forest; the parking lot is accessed from the 14600 block of 100 Avenue.
Facilities:
A fishing pier, washrooms, nature trails.

Deer Lake



Nearest town/city:
in Burnaby

Driving directions: From Highway 1, take the Kensington exit south to Canada Way and follow signs to Deer Lake Park. A parking lot off of Sperling Ave offers the best access to the small dock.

Facilities:

stocked catchable-sized rainbow trout

Tip:
Fish from the small dock at the east end of the lake in the spring and fall; the dock is used for boat rentals during the summer months.


Sasamat Lake



Nearest town/city:
in Port Moody
Driving directions:
From Loco Rd, drive north on 1st Ave and turn left on Bedwell Bay Rd. A parking lot is located at White Pine Beach. Walk south on the loop trail to fish from the floating walkway.
Facilities:
A floating walkway with 2 platforms; washrooms; walking trails and a swimming beach.
