Champion Lakes
Description: Known as an ideal family fun destination, Champion Lakes Provincial Park has three lakes that present an all-inclusive recreational package, including fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking, nature appreciation and swimming. Six-and-a-half kilometres of multi-use trails link the lakes together.
Nearest town/city: Fruitvale
Driving directions: This park is 6 km northeast of Fruitvale off Highway 3B or just 8 km west of the junction of Highway 3 and 3B.
Facilities: Third Champion Lake has two day-use areas. Launching sites for canoes, kayaks and car-top boats are available at Third and Second Lakes. Third Lake is open for ice fishing in the winter. Premier Lake
Description: Although there are a variety of activities available in the Premier Lake Provincial Park, the renowned angling opportunities are the main attraction for visitors. The emerald green waters of Premier Lake and four smaller lakes nearby (Canuck, Yankee, Cats Eye and Quartz) offer exceptional and varied fishing experiences.
Nearest town/city: Kimberley or Cranbrook
Driving directions: Located 72 km north of Cranbrook or 60 km northeast of Kimberley, off of Highway 93/95.
Facilities: A cold-water pump, day-use area and wheelchair accessible picnic site and pit toilet, and a boat launch is available. For more information on Premier Lake Provincial Park's facilities, visit: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks
Fish in the lake: rainbow and brook trout
Tip: During winter, Premier Lake has great ice fishing.
Summit Lake
Description: Nestled in the Nakusp Range of the Selkirk Mountains, Summit Lake is popular with locals and tourists alike. A pebble beach and warm water make it very popular with swimmers. Other park activities include canoeing, kayaking and wildlife viewing.
Nearest town/city: Nakusp
Driving directions: Situated on Highway 6, 18 km southeast of Nakusp and 26 km southwest of New Denver.
Facilities: The campground offers access to the lake from a gravel boat launch for cartop boats. There is also a public boat launch located just 1 km south of the park. For more information on Summit Lake Provincial Park facilities, visit: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks
