In his lifetime, internationally-known fly fisherman

Region 5: Cariboo
The Cariboo region has a long history. In 1793, Alexander Mackenzie and his fellow explorers and native guides made their way across this part of the central interior of British Columbia to the Pacific Ocean. In the mid-1800s, the Cariboo gold rush prompted construction of the Cariboo Wagon Road, and following that homesteaders established farms and ranches in the vast, grassy benchlands of the great Interior plateau.
Today the region still vibrates with a pioneering spirit. Most anglers come to enjoy the fishing during the summer and fall although winter ice-fishing is increasingly popular. Higher in elevation than most lakes in British Columbia, the lakes of the Cariboo offer fantastic fishing in cool, clear, nutrient-rich waters.
Far from urban centres, with thousands of lakes and streams to choose from, you will frequently find that you are the only angler enjoying the scenic splendour of surrounding forested hills and mountains while playing a trophy fish.
