Learn to Fish in the Kootenays in 2009!
The Kootenay Trout Hatchery is offering Learn to Fish programs this summer and is encouraging aspiring anglers of all ages to make 2009 the year that they discover the joys of fishing.

Bootjack Lake
Description: If you are looking for a great fishing lake for beginners and families, look no further than Bootjack Lake!
Nearest town/city: near Likely
Driving directions: Bootjack Lake is accessed from the Moorehead-Bootjack Forest Service Road off of Likely Road.
Facilities: A maintained recreation site at the north end of the lake has 10 vehicle units, a cartop boat launch, pit toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. Access is seasonal two wheel-drive for campers and trailers.
Fish in the lake: rainbow trout
McIntyre Lake
Nearest town/city: Williams Lake
Driving directions: The lake is located west of Williams Lake about 2 km up Meldrum Creek Road.
Facilities: There is a small recreation site on the western shore, which has a car-top boat launch
Fish in the lake: Catchable-sized rainbow and brook trout are stocked into this lake each year.
Fawn Lake
Description: Fawn Lake is relatively small, clear and shallow. It is situated in a valley surrounded by a mixed forest that shelters it from the south and west winds.
Driving directions: From Cache Creek, follow Highway 97 north until the Highway 24 intersection at 93 Mile; turn right and travel to the town of Lone Butte. Follow Highway 24 and watch for the Fawn Lake sign on your left. At the sign turn left onto Fawn Creek Road and drive until you reach the lake.
Facilities: A gravel public boat launch, adjacent to Fawn Lake Resort, only has day parking. Some day anglers pay the resort a small fee to be able to use their facilities as it has full hook-ups for camping and cabins.

Tip: Fawn Lake fishes well through most of the summer months, right through to October.
