B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend Reels in Big Fun

This Father’s Day weekend, British Columbia’s lakes and streams will play host to free events aimed at getting families hooked on fishing.

Cobb Lake
Description:
Nearest town/city: Prince George
Driving directions: Follow Highway 16 west from Prince George for about 65 km to Finnmore Road.
Facilities: A 2WD accessible recreation site is located on the lake; it has a day-use area, toilets and a cartop boat launch.
Fish in the lake: Stocked with brook and rainbow trout
Tips: Brook trout fishing is best in fall and early winter.
Try fly fishing for the exceptionally strong rainbow in spring.


Eskers Lake
Description: Eskers Provincial Park is home to a series of lakes that provide a variety of excellent fishing opportunities for all anglers; they are well suited to fishing with a canoe, casting from the shore, or ice fishing. In the winter, hiking trails connecting all the lakes become a snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing paradise.
Nearest town/city: northwest of Prince George
Driving directions: From Prince George, turn west off Highway 97 north onto Chief Lake Road. Continue west for 27 km (at km 12 Chief Lake Road turns into Ness Lake Road); at the west end of Ness Lake Road turn north onto Ness Lake Road North. Follow this road for 1 km to the Eskers Provincial Park entrance.

Grassham Lake

Description: Grassham Lake is full of small, easy-to-catch rainbow trout and is ideal for fly fishing. The lake's irregular shoreline and islands are also perfect for exploration by canoe. A two-day hiking trail to Mount Shass begins at Grassham Lake; the trail head is only accessible by canoe.
Nearest town/city: west of Fort St James
Driving directions: Located one hour west of Fort St James along the Cunningham Forest Service Road.
Facilities: A small, rustic recreation site provides campsites, picnic tables and pit toilets.
Fish in the lake: rainbow trout
