B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend Reels in Big Fun

This Father’s Day weekend, British Columbia’s lakes and streams will play host to free events aimed at getting families hooked on fishing.

Mission Creek Greenway Pond
Nearest town/city: Kelowna
Driving directions: From KLO Rd, turn north onto Hall Rd and drive to the parking lot near the dead end. The fishing pond is adjacent to Hall Road and is located within the Mission Creek Regional Park.

Fish in the lake: Stocked catchable rainbow trout
Tip: Good shore fishing.

Shannon Lake

Nearest town/city: Westbank
Driving directions: From Highway 97, turn north onto Bartley Rd, left onto Shannon Lake Rd and drive to Shannon Lake Regional Park.
Facilities: This park has toilets, picnic tables, and walking trails.

Fish in the lake: Stocked catchable rainbow trout
Tip: Good shore fishing in the spring within the netted enclosure (seasonal).


West Pond
(The unnamed Lake between Kentucky and Alleyne Lakes)
Description: Kentucky-Alleyne Provincial Park is a popular destination for camping, canoeing, boating, swimming and hiking. The park is also very well-known for fishing and features a ‘children only' fishery - the ponds between Kentucky Lake and Alleyne Lake are managed for those under the age of 16 to foster interest in the sport among youth.
Nearest town/city: South of Merritt
Driving directions: 11 km south Aspen Grove, there is paved access from Highway 5A or 97C to Kentucky Alleyne Provincial Park.
